Terms of use
Draft, not yet reviewed by a lawyer
This page is a working draft and will change before Lawki’s public release.
These terms are the rules for using the Lawki iPhone app and this website. Lawki is run by [CONFIRM: legal name of the person or company that runs Lawki]. By using Lawki, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use Lawki.
[CONFIRM: whether the iPhone app also uses Apple’s standard license agreement (lawyer to decide)].
Who can use Lawki
You must be 18 or older to use Lawki. If you create an account, keep your sign-in details safe and tell us if you think someone else has used your account.
Lawki is not a law firm
Lawki is not a law firm and does not give legal advice. Using Lawki does not create a lawyer-client relationship. Lawki helps you find and read public court records. It does not tell you what they mean for you or what you should do. For advice about your situation, talk to a licensed lawyer.
Court records can be incomplete or out of date
Court information in Lawki comes from CourtListener, a project of Free Law Project. It may be incomplete, out of date or wrong, and Lawki may show a copy that is a little older than the court’s own record. Lawki does not change court records. Before you rely on a record, check it with the court.
PACER documents and fees
Some documents are only available on PACER, the federal courts’ own system. Lawki shows a price for these documents, but it is only an estimate. If you buy a document, you pay PACER directly under PACER’s own terms. Lawki does not buy documents for you and does not receive any part of the fee.
AI features
AI features in the app are optional and labeled as AI. AI summaries quote the documents they used, but they can still be wrong or leave things out, and they are not legal advice. Some cases never get an AI summary, such as sealed cases and criminal cases against individuals.
How you may not use Lawki
Lawki is for reading and following court cases. Lawki is not a background check service. You must not:
- use Lawki to compile profiles of people, or to look into a person rather than a case;
- use Lawki, or anything you get from it, to make decisions about anyone’s eligibility for employment, housing, credit or insurance;
- use Lawki to harass, threaten or stalk anyone;
- copy Lawki’s data in bulk, or try to get around its limits or security;
- break the law while using Lawki.
Lawki is in testing
Lawki is new. Features may change, stop working or be removed, and there may be bugs. [CONFIRM: warranty disclaimer wording (lawyer to write)].
Your account and your notes
Your private notes belong to you. We store and sync them only so the app can show them to you. You can delete your account at any time in the app, which deletes your notes and saved cases. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms.
Limits of our responsibility
[CONFIRM: limitation of liability wording (lawyer to write)].
Law and disputes
[CONFIRM: governing law and where disputes are decided (lawyer to write)].
Court data credit
Court data comes from CourtListener, a project of Free Law Project. [CONFIRM: attribution wording and any data terms agreed with Free Law Project (call on Nov 2, 2026)].
Changes to these terms
When we change these terms, we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we will also tell you in the app or by email.
